Camp Adventure is a magnificent organization run by the American Cancer Society. It provides a unique opportunity for children affected by cancer to come together in a caring and supportive environment. Set against the peaceful backdrop of Shelter Island, NY, the children can share their experiences, fears, and hope for the future. Filled with excitement and activity, the children are brought together with dozens of dedicated volunteers and counselors who put in countless hours of planning, which makes this week a truly special and memorable time for the children.
Hartshorn Portraiture’s role in the camp was that of fundraiser and photography. In March of 2006, our studio held a shoot-a-thon specifically for this camp. Through the generosity of our clients who participated, we were able to donate over $3,000 to Camp Adventure. This allowed three additional children to attend the camp.
For three days in August, I spent my time among the many inspiring campers and volunteers. Given the title, “Camp Photographer,” I was in charge of capturing the enthusiasm and positive personalities on film.
Please visit the American Cancer Society’s “Camp Adventure” website for more information about how you can help.
