Studio Portrait Sessions

Glowing natural light, hardwood floors and white washed walls set the scene in our Hoboken portrait studio - Mac’s shooting destination of choice. High ceilings and large industrial windows enable Mac to shoot using natural light all year round, giving his clients a truly professional and indulgent photographic experience. A comfortable waiting area, changing room and children’s play space help make the experience a happy one for everyone.

My children were extremely comfortable with Mac. This allowed him to capture their personalities and every portrait was amazing!”

If this is the first time you have chosen to do a professional photo shoot, Mac recommends booking a studio shoot because there are less distractions for young ones. Studio sessions are the best choice for families with children under the age of two and expectant moms. We can control the temperature, allow time for naps, snacks, diaper changes, clothing changes and the occasional meltdown.

We allow two hours for each session which gives everyone involved time to relax and get used to being in front of the camera.

Preparing for your Studio Session

Preparation is all important before your shoot.

  • Family haircuts should take place a week or so before your shoot.
  • Natural makeup and hair are preferred. A makeup artist is available by appointment if required.
  • We suggest attention is given to hands and feet especially if you are bringing a baby. Moisturized skin and trimmed nails are important as shoes are generally removed.

Bring along changes of clothing for all the family. Mac’s portraits are about natural expression, spontaneity of gesture, relationship between family members, joy and movement. All this can be explored if you feel comfortable and good about what you are wearing.

  • We suggest keeping clothing simple, try to stay away from bold patterns and very dark colors.
  • Co-ordination is cool. Matching isn’t encouraged.
  • Think about where you will hang these pictures. Choose colors that will work with your décor.
  • Bring that tutu to twirl in!
  • Flattering necklines that show off throat, shoulders and arms are always pretty in photos.
  • Button-down shirts and polos work well for boys and men.
  • Parents-come prepared to be included in the shoot.
